Constantly on the go, often filming or travelling, actor, Anya Lawrence was keen that her home offered a complete antidote to her fast-paced working life. She wanted a look that felt timeless and beautifully serene, a rejuvenating space where she could totally relax.
Having admired the transformation of her friend and fellow actor Ross Adams, she also turned to interior designer Lisa Hensby to bring her vision to life; to create something modern with a subtle nod to the traditional.
Starting from the ground up, Lisa has designed a calming space with a stylish mix of layered textures and neutral tones, balancing classic details with a fresh, contemporary feel. “The floor was absolutely the anchor of this design,” Lisa explained. “We started there and built everything else around it. Although the house is a modest size, the herringbone floor makes it feel more spacious and gives it a sense of luxury.”

Opting for Norfolk Acacia in a herringbone design from the new Knight Tile range, the flooring flows from the front door through the hallway and living room for an elegant foundation that ensures the whole scheme flows seamlessly from one space to the next.
The Norfolk Acacia flooring has introduced warmth and brightness to the compact space while adding an interesting pattern. For a sophisticated tailored finish, an elegant border featuring a black design strip has created a sense of craftsmanship that frames each space beautifully. With its delicate light colouring, authentic wood detailing and soft tonal variation, Norfolk Acacia balances traditional charm with a contemporary edge, while the herringbone pattern subtly draws the eye and gives the layout a more open and connected feel.
Anya wanted her living room to feel calm and restorative, so she chose a soothing neutral palette featuring a sofa and love chair from Dusk, paired with a textured rug from Rugvista. Panelled walls painted in Farrow & Ball’s White add architectural charm while keeping the space bright and refined. Grounding it all, the flooring introduces a gentle warmth - its undertones perfectly complementing the creams, greys and taupes that flow throughout Anya’s living areas, creating a beautifully cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

Lisa told us: “The subtle movement in each plank gives the floor a crafted, natural feel. It brings depth and authenticity to the space without overpowering it, quietly enhancing everything around it. That’s what makes it so timeless.
“For me, design is about more than aesthetics - it’s about creating homes that are both beautiful and practical. Which is why Karndean was an easy choice, combining practicality with a premium finish. The flooring is durable, easy to maintain and delivers the look of real wood without the upkeep. So you can get a designer feel at an accessible price.”
The result is a home that feels effortlessly refined, quietly luxurious and designed to last. A perfect example of how thoughtful flooring can bring a whole interior together and create a look that’s elegant and calming.
