Wrap up for a cosy autumn

Autumn is a time for reflection after the busyness of summer. A time when we look back at all we’ve achieved and start to consider our winter celebrations with family and friends and perhaps even consider plans for the new year.

As the season of long evenings and festive entertaining approaches, now is the perfect time to prepare your living room for guests and cosy family nights in. To create a nostalgic sense of wellbeing and indulgence to take us through the dark winter months.

When we take time to consider all the different elements of our living room, from the colour palette and flooring to the rugs, cushions and accessories that make the space uniquely us, the result is a home that wraps us in comfort, welcomes all guests and helps us recover from the stresses of the day.

Find your inspiration

For an inviting sanctuary guaranteed to relax and restore, we recommend taking a leaf out of nature’s style book. Think neutral and earthy colours, interesting textures, soft corners and comfortable seating.

You might already have a clear idea of your dream living room but if not, our Instagram channel is the ideal place to see real homes showcasing beautiful nature-inspired style and our most popular floors in room settings. Or you might like to order a copy of our latest brochure where you’ll find lots of advice on achieving a look that suits your home and your personality.

Build a colour palette

The colours of nature tend toward the warmer side of the spectrum – think creamy yellows, soft greens, muted blues as well as pinks, purples and gentle oranges. To find your perfect palette, you might start with a piece of furniture, artwork or textiles that you already own or even the colours you always turn to for clothes.

Firstly, find a neutral shade that suits your room’s orientation (warmer hues work best in a north facing room while a south facing room can manage cooler shades) then build up layers. For pared back serenity you might like to keep your palette restrained in similar shades or, for a bolder eclectic look, try mixing things up with complementary and contrasting colours.

Add interest and texture

A home that feels timeless and appears to have evolved over generations is one that has been carefully considered, where nothing matches but the many different elements sit harmoniously together.

To bring a sense of quiet luxury to your home, opt for quality materials that will last a lifetime like our nature inspired flooring. From cool limewashed oak and river washed marble, pinky beige ash and limestone with embedded fossils to rich espresso acacia and smoky concrete, there’s a stunning floor waiting to elevate any home.

But the beauty of Karndean flooring is not just an authentic look of natural wood or stone, it’s also highly practical. Surprisingly warm and comfortable underfoot, it’s a breeze to keep clean with just a soft broom and a damp mop. Looking to layer up with a rug for extra comfort? That’s no problem either, just choose a design without a rubber backing and your floor will shine.
